Natchaug State Forest

Established in 1917, Natchaug State Forest covers 13,438 acres across six towns including Chaplin, Ashford and Eastford. DEEP describes it as popular for horse trails, fishing and riverfront picnic sites; it holds the site of the birthplace of Union General Nathaniel Lyon.
