Okemo Mountain Resort

Okemo Mountain, Inc. was incorporated on January 7, 1955, by local Ludlow businessmen, with Donald Ayers as first president and Merrill Proctor, Ernest Moore, and Allen Fletcher Jr. among the founding directors, per New England Ski History's Okemo Mountain page. The area opened for skiing on January 31, 1956, with terrain served by Poma lifts. Okemo's first chairlift, the Sachem double, was installed for the 1965-66 season; the South Ridge double chairlift, added for 1971-72, gave the mountain top-to-bottom chairlift service for the first time. On August 2, 1982, Tim and Diane Mueller took a principal ownership stake in Okemo, beginning a period of Mueller family ownership that lasted 36 years, until 2018. The Muellers developed the Jackson Gore base area expansion: the main lift opened for the 2002-03 season, and the base area and lower mountain lift followed for the 2003-04 season. In 2008, Triple Peaks LLC -- the Mueller family's operating company for Okemo -- sold the resort's underlying real estate to CNL Lifestyle Properties for $132 million. On June 4, 2018, Vail Resorts announced it would acquire Triple Peaks LLC -- the Mueller family's operating company for Okemo, Mount Sunapee Resort (NH), and Crested Butte Mountain Resort (CO) -- for $82 million, plus $155 million to buy out the three resorts' underlying lease agreements, ending the Muellers' 36-year ownership of Okemo, per VTDigger's June 4, 2018 report.
