Palazzo Capranica

A fifteenth-century palace on the square of the same name. Roma Capitale states the rione outright — «il palazzo, sito nell'omonima piazza, all'interno del territorio del rione Colonna, è un edificio del XV secolo» — and gives two addresses for it, Piazza Capranica 101 and Via del Collegio Capranica 36-43.
History
The inscription over the portal dates construction to 1451, for Cardinal Domenico Capranica. Roma Capitale records that it was first a Capranica residence and from 1457 a college for clerics. It has a square corner tower whose top storey opens as a loggia, and two marble portals, one reading COLLEGIUM CAPRANICENSE and the other TEATRO CAPRANICA, the second also bearing the date 1451. On the first floor are three Gothic and three Renaissance windows, with traces of the Capranica arms on the Gothic capitals.
