A not-for-profit creative production centre with fabrication shops and membership studios for print, ceramics, metal- and woodworking and textiles.
History
The building was constructed between 1901 and 1904 as the Central Power Station of the Brooklyn Rapid Transit Company and supplied the Fourth Avenue Line until 1972. Vacant for two decades, it became known from around 2001 as the Gowanus Batcave. Joshua Rechnitz bought it for $7 million in 2012, and a $180 million Herzog & de Meuron renovation opened in May 2023.
