Queens Public Library, Far Rockaway branch

A Queens Public Library branch that opened in July 2024 at a cost of $39 million, designed by Snøhetta for the New York City Department of Design and Construction and Queens Public Library. The architect places it "at the prominent intersection of Mott and Central Avenues," "organized around an inverted pyramidal atrium, which allows the penetration of natural light to the ground floor as well as a view of the sky," and "clad in fritted, colored glass, with a color gradient reflective of the sunrise off Long Island's coast." QNS, cited by Wikipedia, gives 18,000 square feet across two stories, a glass facade and a blue roof that collects rainwater, the color of the facade an allusion to the color of the ocean.
