History
The Grade II listing was made on 13 May 2022 as list entry 1480655, under the statutory name 'Queens Theatre'. Havering Theatre Trust Ltd was established in 1953 and the company opened in a converted cinema in Station Lane with a production of See How They Run. The London Borough of Havering built the present theatre in 1974, and Sir Peter Hall opened it in April 1975 with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. The theatre took UK Theatre's Most Welcoming Theatre award in 2016, 2017 and 2018, was named London Theatre of the Year in The Stage Awards 2020, and has completed QNew, a £1.3 million capital project. Charity number 248680. Hornchurch station, on the District line, is about 900 m south, and bus routes 165, 193, 248, 252, 256, 365, 370, 372, 646 and 652 run within 500 m of Billet Lane.
