Rainbow Honor Walk

The walk was founded by David Perry. A first round of twenty plaques was installed in 2014 and a second round of twenty-four was completed in 2019; twenty-four further honorees were named in 2022. The Castro Street History Walk shares the same pavement: twenty historical fact plaques, ten of them covering the period from before 1776 to the 1960s and ten covering events associated with the queer community in the Castro, contained within the 400 and 500 blocks of Castro Street between 19th and Market. The paving they sit in was laid by the Castro Street Streetscape Improvement Project, which San Francisco Public Works records as completed, on Castro Street between Market and 19th Streets, at a budget of ten million dollars in District 8, funded by the 2011 Road Repaving and Street Safety Bond and the Federal Transportation Administration.
