The headquarters campus of the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, described as the first community development corporation in the United States. It reports roughly 1.5 million plaza visits a year and more than 60,000 individuals served through programs in financial inclusion, small business support, housing, jobs, health, arts and culture, and it houses the Billie Holiday Theatre.
History
The Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation was established in the late 1960s under the leadership of Senator Robert F. Kennedy. Its own site states that for more than 57 years Restoration has worked to advance community development and racial equity.
