Piazza Bocca della Verita

The square that occupies the ground of the Forum Boarium's ox market. It gathers Santa Maria in Cosmedin, the Temple of Hercules, the Temple of Portunus and the Fontana dei Tritoni.
History
Archaeological finds of eighth-century-BC Greek ceramic and Mycenaean fragments confirm the tradition of contact with Greece and Asia before the foundation of Rome. Capital sentences were carried out here until 1868.
