A neo-Baroque church on via Alessandro Volta, built between 1887 and 1889 and consecrated in 1889, in a complex that also fronted via Galvani and via Nicola Zabaglia. On the lower storey of the façade four Doric pilasters flank the portal, which is crowned by an arched pediment. The complex closed in 2008 and the diocese no longer lists the church, which cannot be entered; it is written here as streetscape.
History
Two attributions stand in the sources and neither is set aside here: the architect Antonio Lenti, and Mariano Armellini's Le chiese di Roma dal secolo IV al XIX of 1891, which says the church was begun in 1888 to the designs of signor Barbiellini. It was built for the Figlie della Divina Provvidenza, a congregation founded in 1832 by Maria Elena Bettini to educate poor girls, with the support of the Barnabites of San Carlo ai Catinari. The complex held a canteen, an orphanage and a school, and the church served the new quarter before the parish of Santa Maria Liberatrice existed. The convent was the congregation's mother house until the end of the twentieth century, when it moved to via Matteo Bartoli 255.
