Saville Dam and Barkhamsted Reservoir

A stone-and-earth dam named for MDC chief engineer Caleb Mills Saville, completed in 1940 to impound a 30-billion-gallon reservoir; water first flowed to Hartford on December 21, 1944. Flooding Barkhamsted Hollow displaced roughly 1,000 residents. Watershed land — a scenic drive-by and walking stop, not for swimming or boating.
