Scalo de Pinedo
Historic site · Flaminio, Italy
A river port on the Tiber at lungotevere Arnaldo da Brescia, owned by Roma Capitale and long disused as a port. The Monumento a Giacomo Matteotti stands on the green plot beside it.
History
It was built at the end of the 19th century to replace the Porto di Ripetta, which was demolished in the same years for the muraglioni flood embankments; the new landing reproduced the 18th-century design of the old one by Alessandro Specchi. Romasegreta gives this account. Rome's 1909 master plan changed the area's designation from industrial-artisanal to residential, and the landing lost its function within a few years of opening.
