Southgate Underground Station

Southgate Underground station is on Station Parade, N14 5BH, and is listed at Grade II* as NHLE 1188692, under the statutory name 'Southgate Underground Station, including surface buildings and platforms, Station Parade N14'. Its circular booking hall, with a drum and finial above it, is the landmark of the 1932-33 Piccadilly line extension through the borough. It is a working station on the Piccadilly line and TfL gives its naptanId as 940GZZLUSGT.
History
The Grade II listing was made on 19 February 1971 and amended on 28 July 2009. Historic England records the station as 'Opened March 1933 to the designs of Charles Holden of Adams, Holden and Pearson for the London Passenger Transport Board', built on a 'Reinforced concrete frame, the street-level entrance building clad in red and brown brick on Cornish granite plinth'. The station pylons to the north and south are a separate Grade II entry, NHLE 1359011, first listed on 19 February 1971. The borough's other listed Holden stations are Arnos Grove at Grade II, NHLE 1358981, Oakwood at Grade II, NHLE 1078930, with its station sign separately Grade II, NHLE 1358982, and Cockfosters at Grade II, NHLE 1358718, listed on 26 May 1987.
