Steep Rock Association preserves
Park · Washington, Connecticut
A land trust whose origins date to 1889, when architect Ehrick Rossiter bought roughly 165 acres — including Steep Rock Summit — to stop a timber company from clear-cutting it; in 1925 he deeded the land to community trustees. Its preserves (Steep Rock, Hidden Valley, Macricostas) now offer 46 miles of trails, plus Judea Garden, an organic farm.
