Sterling Hill Historic District
Historic site · Sterling, Connecticut
Listed on the National Register in 1986, the district straddles the Plainfield-Sterling line on a broad ridge, preserving 15 principal structures including seven 18th-century center-chimney houses and the Greek Revival Sterling Hill Baptist Church. The Dorrance Homestead dates to about 1716; the houses are private residences viewable from the road.
History
A 3.6-mile stretch of Plainfield Pike that Rochambeau's French army traveled in 1781, marching to join Washington's forces, runs through the district.
