The Design Museum

The Design Museum is at 224–238 Kensington High Street, in the former Commonwealth Institute building. It opens 10:00–17:00 Monday to Thursday and 10:00–18:00 Friday to Sunday, and on bank holidays. It closes on 18 September all day, reopening on 19 September 2026, and over Christmas on 24, 25 and 26 December, reopening on 27 December 2026.
History
Sir Terence Conran founded the museum in 1989 and it moved to Kensington High Street in 2016. The building it occupies is the former Commonwealth Institute, listed at Grade II* under that name, NHLE 1227441. The museum was awarded European Museum of the Year in 2018 and Independent Research Organisation status in spring 2024.
