Theatre Royal Stratford East

The Grade II* listing was made on 28 June 1972 as list entry 1293425, under the statutory name "The Theatre Royal". The square outside is named for Gerry Raffles, general manager of Theatre Workshop, the company Joan Littlewood led at the theatre; a monument in the borough commemorates "Joan Littlewood — The Mother of Modern Theatre". The building stands inside the Stratford, St John's conservation area, designated in January 1984. Stratford station, four TfL stations under one roof, is the interchange for the square.
