Thomaston Dam

Built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers after catastrophic 1955 Naugatuck River flooding, completed in 1960 at a cost of $14 million; its recreation lands cover 849 acres spanning Thomaston, Harwinton, Litchfield and Plymouth. Hiking, sightseeing, fishing and seasonal snowmobiling on designated trails, open late May through mid-September. Phone (860) 283-5540.
