The Fabbrica di San Pietro's product page states that, due to the continuation of work on the new layout, the Treasure Museum will be temporarily closed. The same page confirms that the basilica itself can still be entered without a reservation, from the ordinary entrance in St Peter's Square.
History
The Fabbrica records that the Treasury was born with the basilica and was dispersed repeatedly: by the Visigoths in 410, the Vandals in 455, the Ostrogoths in 545, the Saracens in 830 and 846, the Normans in 1084 and the Landsknechts in 1527, and it was requisitioned under the Jacobin occupation of 1798 and 1799. Custody has been with the Chapter of Saint Peter since the eleventh century. A museum arrangement of two rooms was made in 1909, and a larger transformation was carried out from 1949 by the architect Franco Minissi, aimed at the 1975 Jubilee and built on the principle of the protagonism of the objects.
