Vinegar Hill Historic District
Historic site · Vinegar Hill, New York
Three separate small groups of brick Federal and Greek Revival rowhouses, a mid-nineteenth-century firehouse and part of an early-twentieth-century industrial building, on streets that retain their Belgian-block paving. The houses are private residences; the district is viewable as streetscape.
History
Designated by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission on January 14, 1997, under Designation List 276, LP-1952. The houses were built by John Jackson and his heirs between 1801 and the 1830s and, on the Sands family's lots, in the 1840s and 1850s.
