Weeksville Heritage Center

A historic site and cultural centre on the block where the free Black community of Weeksville stood, preserving and interpreting the surviving Hunterfly Road Houses alongside a newer education and exhibition building, with public programmes on Black history, art and culture. Its own site gives hours of Tuesday to Friday, 10am to 5pm, and Saturday, 11am to 5pm, closed Sundays and Mondays.
History
The preservation society bought the Hunterfly Road Houses in 1973. After a restoration costing roughly $3 million the site reopened publicly in 2005 as the Weeksville Heritage Center, and a 19,000-square-foot education and exhibition building was completed on the same campus in 2014. In 2019 the centre joined New York City's Cultural Institutions Group, the first Black cultural centre in Brooklyn to receive that designation.
