Second on Golf Digest's 2025-'26 ranking of the best golf courses in Connecticut, and 38th on the same publication's America's 100 Greatest Public Courses, where its entry carries the rubric "Public." Designed by Charles Blair Macdonald and Seth Raynor on a 700-acre tract given to Yale by Mrs. Ray Tompkins in 1923, built for $400,000 and opened in 1926. A Gil Hanse restoration undertaken in 2024 was, per Yale, "Completed in time for the course's Centennial celebration in 2026," rebuilding the Double Punch Bowl green, restoring the double fairways at holes 3 and 18, and reconstructing the green complexes to USGA specifications for the first time in the course's history. Championship tees play 7,054 yards, par 70, rating 74.7, slope 144. Yale's Terms & Conditions, last updated February 2026, state: "The course operates as a public, daily-fee operation."
