Barnardo's Village, Barkingside

Dr Barnardo's Memorial was listed on 22 February 1979 and upgraded to Grade II* on 20 May 2010, NHLE 1081001. George Frampton sculpted it without a fee and it was raised in 1908, three years after Barnardo's death in 1905; his ashes were interred in front of Cairns House, the original building of the children's village. Twenty-two of the cottage homes were listed Grade II on 5 May 2010 under a single entry, NHLE 1393777, whose list name is "Twenty-two cottage homes at Barnardo's". The Children's Church and lych gate, NHLE 1393778, Cairns Cottage, NHLE 1393781, the fountain on the green, NHLE 1393779, and the lodge and boundary walls, NHLE 1393780, are each Grade II. Pert Cottages on the same lane carry two further Grade II entries, NHLE 1081010 for numbers 45-55 and NHLE 1357971 for numbers 33-43.
