Fairlop Waters Country Park, on Forest Road, Barkingside, IG6 3HN, is open space with two lakes and a golf course, laid out on former gravel workings on the site of Fairlop aerodrome. Its boulder park runs nine individual boulders of sprayed and carved concrete, varying in height and shape, all built for solo climbing and traversing from novice to expert. Parking is £1.80 for up to an hour, £3.10 for one to two hours and £6.40 all day, and barbecues are not permitted.

History

The large lake is used for sailing, rowing and windsurfing, and the Lakeside Suite in the Boathouse is licensed for weddings and civil ceremonies. In 2009 the park was one of eleven across Greater London chosen by public vote for redevelopment funding, and it received £400,000 for footpaths, lighting, refurbished toilets and new play areas. Fairlop station is 487 m from the visitor entrance and Hainault station about 1,010 m, both on the Central line's Hainault loop; within 600 m of the IG6 3HN entrance the 462 is the route that stops, while nine routes call at Fairlop station about 500 m away.
