Fullwell Cross Library, at 140 High Street, Barkingside, IG6 2EA, is a circular building by Frederick Gibberd with a raised dome roof studded with sixteen-sided clerestory windows and finished in green copper, listed Grade II as NHLE 1391938. It is a working library, open Monday 10am to 8pm, Tuesday 10am to 6pm, Wednesday 10am to 8pm, Thursday 10am to 6pm and Saturday 10am to 5pm, and closed on Sunday; no source states a Friday time, so none is given here.
History
The Grade II listing was made on 23 April 2007 as list entry 1391938. Field Marshal Sir Gerald Templer, then Lieutenant of Greater London, opened the building on 20 March 1968. It was refurbished in 2024 with funding from Vision, Redbridge Council and the Libraries Improvement Fund administered by Arts Council England. It has two hireable halls, the Hainault Room and the larger Aldborough Room, and lends Hublet tablets for up to two hours at a time. Fairlop station is 507 m away and Barkingside station 851 m, both on the Central line's Hainault loop.
