Bronx General Post Office

Thirteen mural panels by Ben Shahn and Bernarda Bryson were completed inside in August 1939. The exterior was designated a New York City Landmark on September 14, 1976 — a November 25, 1975 date attached to this building elsewhere is a newspaper report of the pending designation rather than the designating act — and the interior was designated on December 17, 2013. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 6, 1980 and on the New York State Register on June 23, 1980. Mail processing operations relocated in 2011; the building was sold to Youngwoo & Associates in September 2014 for $19 million, resold to Maddd Equities in July 2025 for $44 million, and a CUNY lease was signed in September 2025.
