Chiesa di San Gioacchino in Prati
Historic site · Prati, Italy
A parish and titular church beside piazza dei Quiriti, its façade carrying a very large mosaic of the five continents. Italian Wikipedia's official-site field for this church now points to a gambling site and this guide deliberately gives no web address for it.
History
Italian Wikipedia and Rome Art Lover both record that the church was built at the wish of Leo XIII to mark his priestly jubilee and dedicated to his baptismal name-saint, that the first stone was laid in 1881, that the works were carried out between 1891 and 1898, that it opened to the public in 1898 and was finished in 1911, and that the architect was Raffaele Ingami. The same sources date the five-continents mosaic to 1898.
