Chiesa di Santo Stanislao dei Polacchi

Historic site · Sant'Angelo, Italy

The national church of Poles in Rome, on via delle Botteghe Oscure. it.wikipedia gives it as in rione Sant'Angelo.

History

The church descends from San Salvatore in pensilis de Sorraca, a medieval church recorded in documents of 1174 and 1209 and built on the remains of the Circo Flaminio. An epigraph records a rebuilding of 27 October 1285 and is all that survives of the medieval church. Gregory XIII gave the church to the Polish cardinal Stanislaus Hosius, who had it wholly rebuilt in 1580 as the Polish national church.
