Edicola sacra della Madonna Annunciata, palazzetto dell'Olmo

The Sovrintendenza Capitolina records that written and oral testimony puts the shrine originally between piazza Mattei and piazza Paganica, in what was historically the contrada dell'Olmo. During restoration in the 1970s the signature of Vincenzo Milone was found, dating the work to 1788, and a record of a further restoration in 1898 came to light in the same work. Three marble epigraphs below the shrine refer to the movement of the Virgin's eyes in the summer of 1796, during the French invasion; the Sovrintendenza states that about twenty-five images in Rome were officially recognised by cardinalatial decree as subject to such events.
