Church of St Mary, Harmondsworth
Historic site · Harmondsworth, England
The Church of St Mary is a working Anglican parish church on the High Street at Harmondsworth, UB7 0AG, listed Grade II* as NHLE 1080201. It stands 74 m east-south-east of the Grade I Great Barn, NHLE 1194332, on the same medieval manorial site held by Winchester College. No source states its opening hours, so none are given here.
History
Parts of the fabric are 12th-century, and the church keeps a Norman doorway and a tower with angular turrets. There is a long-running argument over whether Heathrow Airport carries chancel repair liability here, arising from land assigned at the 1819 enclosure. The Grade II* listing was made on 1 March 1950 as list entry 1080201, under the register name "CHURCH OF ST MARY, HARMONDSWORTH". The village around it is densely designated: the Five Bells Inn, NHLE 1194343; Manor Farmhouse, NHLE 1358367; The Sun House, NHLE 1358366; and Harmondsworth Hall, NHLE 1080123, are all Grade II within 200 m.
