Harmondsworth Great Barn

William of Wykeham bought the land in 1391 to endow Winchester College and New College, Oxford, and English Heritage give the build date as 1426 and the builder as Winchester College. John Betjeman called the barn "the cathedral of Middlesex". English Heritage acquired it in January 2012. The Grade I listing was made on 1 March 1950 as list entry 1194332 and amended on 11 July 2014, under the register name "The Great Barn, Harmondsworth". Roughly half the village would be demolished under the proposed north-west runway at Heathrow, leaving the barn close to the airport perimeter. There is no station within 2 km: Heathrow Terminal 5 is 2,256 m away on the Piccadilly line, with the Elizabeth line and Heathrow Express at the rail station there, and West Drayton, on the Elizabeth line and Great Western Railway, is 2,390 m; the 350 and U3 buses stop on Harmondsworth Lane 298 m away.
