The Church of St Mary the Virgin is a working Anglican parish church on Church Road, Hayes, UB3 2LY, listed Grade II* as NHLE 1080233; the lych gate and the wall to the south are a separate Grade II entry, NHLE 1080234. Medieval wall paintings survive inside, including a large 14th-century painting of St Christopher. No source states its opening hours, so none are given here.
History
The centre of the building is 13th-century, the north aisle and tower 15th-century and the south aisle 16th-century, and the font is 12th-century. Brasses commemorate Robert Lellee, rector from about 1356 to 1375, and Robert Burgeys, rector from 1408 to 1421. The Grade II* listing was made on 27 May 1949 as list entry 1080233, with the lych gate and south wall listed Grade II the same day as NHLE 1080234. The former manor house stables next to the churchyard are separately Grade II, NHLE 1080274. Hayes & Harlington Rail Station, on the Elizabeth line and Great Western Railway, is 1,548 m away, and the 195, 278, 698 and H98 buses stop on Freemans Lane 115 m from the church.
