San Francisco Maritime Museum, Aquatic Park Bathhouse

The bathhouse at the foot of Polk Street, standing behind the Aquatic Park beach and now holding the maritime museum. The National Park Service describes it as Streamline Moderne, defined by sweeping lines, curved facades, stainless steel railings and porthole windows, its design evoking a ship at port. It is a contributing building of the Aquatic Park Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984, reference number 84001183.
History
William Mooser III designed the building under the supervision of his father, William Mooser II. It was built by the Works Progress Administration between 1936 and 1939 at a cost of $1.5 million, and the dedication ceremony on 22 January 1939 drew a crowd of 10,000.
