Roma Capitale describes the temple in white Carrara marble, eight columns across the front and seven along each side, of which three still stand on the south-east side. Behind it rises a firewall of peperino, pietra gabina and travertine, up to thirty-three metres high, raised to shield the forum from the fires of the Suburra. The second opening through that wall is the Arco dei Pantani, a single travertine span. The Aula del Colosso, which the Comune names on its Imperial Fora page, housed the colossal Genius of Augustus, whose remains are now in the Museo dei Fori Imperiali. The Comune's page also records that in the Middle Ages the podium of the temple was occupied by the church of San Basilio, «ora scomparsa» — now vanished.
