Golden Gate Park Carousel

The carousel in the Children's Quarter, housed in a building of 1889 designed by the architect Arthur Page Brown: essentially a circular Greek temple with its domed roof supported by sixteen fluted, tapered wood Doric columns. Open-air at first, it was given a glass and metal enclosure in 1964, and a rehabilitation in 2002 gave it a new metal roof. A ticket pavilion of 1889 stands with it.
History
The carousel was built in 1914 by the Herschell-Spillman Company of North Tonawanda, New York. It operated in Lincoln Park in Los Angeles and was used at the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition before being purchased and installed in Golden Gate Park in 1941. It was restored in 1984.
