John McLaren Memorial Rhododendron Dell

It was started in 1942 and named the John McLaren Memorial Rhododendron Dell after McLaren's death in 1943. The bronze statue of John McLaren by M. Earl Cummings stands at ground level, without the standard granite pedestal: the superintendent refused to accept the statue made in his honour, and the work stood on the sculptor's doorstep for years until its placement in 1944 after McLaren's death.
