Haddam Shad Museum

Housed in the former Bill Maynard Shad Shack, the only museum in the country devoted solely to shad fishing — Connecticut's state fish, harvested in Haddam since 1662. Exhibits cover the industry's 18th- and 19th-century peak, including 1814's catch of 200,000 fish from 17 town locations. Runs a spring season on Sundays (roughly April–June); year-round appointments at (860) 345-2400.
