Highpoint I and Highpoint II

Berthold Lubetkin designed Highpoint I with structural design by Ove Arup and construction by J. L. Kier & Co Ltd, completed in 1935. It was built for the entrepreneur Sigmund Gestetner, intended to house Gestetner company staff, and contains 64 flats. Le Corbusier visited in 1935 and said 'This beautiful building .... at Highgate is an achievement of the first rank.' Highpoint II was completed in 1938; Lubetkin lived in Highpoint I's penthouse until it was finished, then moved into Highpoint II's. Both blocks stand in Haringey's Highgate conservation area, designated 21 December 1967, and they are two of the six Grade I entries the National Heritage List for England records in the borough.
