Living Memorial Park

The ski hill at Living Memorial Park was founded in 1937, when Robert Billings, Elliot Barber, Floyd Messenger, and John Dunham organized to build a rope tow on the Charles Clark farm, per Brattleboro Ski Hill's own history page. Construction of the original 1,100-foot rope tow began November 10, 1937, and it opened to the public the first Saturday in January 1938, with all-day tickets costing 35 cents. The Brattleboro Ski Patrol was formed in January 1938 and formally affiliated with the National Ski Patrol System in 1941. The current Doppelmayr T-bar lift was installed in 1957, the same year the Town of Brattleboro took over running the ski hill. The Town of Brattleboro ceased operating the ski hill in 1995. A private group of citizens reopened the hill in 1997 under the newly formed nonprofit Living Memorial Park Snow Sports, Inc., which operates today as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that is entirely volunteer-run, at 24 Living Memorial Park Drive, per the organization's own site. Living Memorial Park itself was created after Brattleboro residents raised funds during the 1950s to purchase the Clark family farm, developed into a park in partnership with local service organizations. Brattleboro's Recreation & Parks Department, which today oversees the park, was established in the early 1920s.
