The neighborhood's namesake park, running along Gerritsen Creek and Jamaica Bay, with athletic fields and courts, walking paths, a golf course and the Salt Marsh Nature Center. NYC Parks lists it as open from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m.
History
Frederic B. Pratt and Alfred Tredway White jointly donated about 150 acres for parkland in 1917, and the Whitney family donated more from around 1920; New York City accepted the offer in 1924, which spurred residential development around it. The Brooklyn Board of Aldermen named it Brooklyn Marine Park in 1937. Its designer, the landscape architect Charles Downing Lay, won an Olympic silver medal for the design in the town-planning category of the 1936 Summer Olympics art competitions.
