History
Deptford's Royal Dockyard was established in 1513 by Henry VIII and closed as a dockyard on 31 March 1869. It was largely shut down from 1830 to 1837, with only shipbreaking carried out, and reopened for shipbuilding in 1844. The site is now known as Convoys Wharf: twenty-one acres of it opened as the City of London Corporation's Foreign Cattle Market on 28 December 1871, and in October 1914 the ground became a Supply Reserve Depot for the Army Service Corps.
