Mitcham Cricket Green

Nineteenth-century Australian touring sides practised here and stayed at The Cricketers, the pub that then overlooked the green and served as the pavilion, the scorer sitting on its balcony; an incendiary bomb destroyed it in the Second World War, the post-war replacement has since been demolished as well, and flats stand on the site. A Surrey against Australia women's match in 1937 is reported to have drawn a crowd of more than 10,000.
