Monte Savello

Historic site · Sant'Angelo, Italy

A low rise between the Tiber and the Capitol, and the square named after it. Palazzo Savelli Orsini stands on it, above the Teatro di Marcello.

History

it.wikipedia places Monte Savello in rione Sant'Angelo and explains the rise as the ruins of part of the Teatro di Marcello together with alluvium from the Tiber. It was known from at least the 12th century as monte Faffo or monte Fabiorum, and later took the name of the Savelli, whose palace was built on the theatre.
