Palazzetto di Flaminio Ponzio

Historic site · Sant'Angelo, Italy

A 1950s block closing the short east end of piazza di Campitelli, carrying a facade that was built somewhere else. It is an office of the Comune's Dipartimento IV.

History

Flaminio Ponzio, born 1559 or 1560 and died in Rome in 1613, built the original in 1600 on via Alessandrina, in rione Monti, and it was demolished in 1933 for the opening of via dei Fori Imperiali. The architectural elements of the front were dismantled and kept, and re-erected here twenty-odd years later. The mascaron of the central window was re-carved during the 1950s work, on the model of the original.
