Myddelton House Gardens

The registration was made on 1 October 1987 as list entry 1000243 and Historic England records the area at 7.35 hectares. The house is separately listed Grade II, NHLE 1078893, on 19 March 1951; the list entry dates it to 1819 and notes 'the home of the Bowles family. Mr E A Bowles, the Vice President of the Royal Horticultural Society, laid out the garden.' The New River, completed in 1613 under Sir Hugh Myddelton, ran through the property; the operator states that it 'became redundant in 1859 but was kept as a feature in the garden until 1967', and its course survives as the New River Lawn. Four further Grade II entries stand in the grounds: the stable block, NHLE 1359004, the iron bridge, NHLE 1079479, the market cross, NHLE 1079478, and the lake terrace, NHLE 1358715, the last three listed on 15 August 1979.
