Old Croton Aqueduct Trail

A 1.1-mile trail through Van Cortlandt Park along the route of the Old Croton Aqueduct, rated easy to moderate. The Old Croton Trail enters New York City on the eastern side of Van Cortlandt Park.
History
The aqueduct was built between 1837 and 1842; water began flowing on June 22, 1842 and it opened to the public on October 14, 1842. The original system's service ended in 1955, and portions reopened in 1987. The New Croton Aqueduct opened in 1890. The Old Croton Aqueduct was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 2, 1974 and designated a National Historic Landmark on April 27, 1992, a designation extended to cover the aqueduct's route in the Bronx.
