Pelham Bay & Split Rock Golf Courses
Attraction · Pelham Bay Park, New York
One golf facility inside Pelham Bay Park with two courses, Pelham Bay and Split Rock, sharing an address at 870 Shore Road, a pro shop, a telephone line — (718) 885-1258 — and a single tee-time booking system. Its own site gives the name in that form and names American Golf Corporation as the operator.
History
The golf courses were reopened in June 1935, sixteen months after construction commenced, created through the efforts of New York City park commissioner Robert Moses — the same commissioner, and the same programme, that built Orchard Beach. John van Kleek designed Split Rock. Split Rock itself, the dome-shaped granite boulder, borders the Split Rock Golf Course and falls within the Thomas Pell Wildlife Sanctuary, whose oak–hickory forests in tidal marshes border the course.
