Piazza della Repubblica

Turismo Roma records that the square took its old name, Piazza Esedra, from the great exedra of the Baths of Diocletian, whose perimeter its semicircular colonnade retraces, and that the colonnade and the palaces that frame it are the work of the Turin architect Gaetano Koch, in the late 19th century. Italian Wikipedia's article on the rione describes them as the two great porticoed Savoyard palaces at the sides, following the line of the baths' exedra. The Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri opens off the square and the Fontana delle Naiadi stands at its centre; both have their own entries here.
