Piazza Testaccio

The rione was instituted in 1921. In 1905 the Comitato per il miglioramento economico e morale di Testaccio obtained the assignment of a cleared lot on which the square was made, then named piazza Mastro Giorgio. The district market was held here for many years, until it moved to via Galvani in 2012; the fountain was returned to the centre of the square in the restyling that followed. A plaque of 2015 marks the birthplace of the singer Gabriella Ferri and reads: "Qui è nata / Gabriella Ferri / Grande interprete della canzone italiana".
