Queen's Promenade

A map of 1762 shows the Portsmouth Road here as entirely rural, and the promenade was laid out as a public work of recreation along the river. The Riverside South Conservation Area, designated in February 2003 over 22.8 hectares and 240 properties, describes the area as 'a linear area forming the setting to Hampton Court Park, along the Portsmouth Road and the River Thames', and names the strategic views into Hampton Court Palace's parkland from the riverside path among its special interest. This bank is the Kingston side of that setting; the palace and its registered park and garden, NHLE 1000108, are in Richmond upon Thames. The K3 is the bus route that stops within 400 m of the filter beds.
